Dear Edventures community,
July was a month of quiet but focused rebuilding. We poured our energy into reshaping the Alpha aligned with our B2C pivot, welcomed a new teammate, and laid the groundwork for our August relaunch.
If you’re just getting to know us, here’s a recap
Whether it’s your first or hundredth newsletter, I’m so happy you’re reading this newsletter and that you want to follow us on our journey towards becoming the global leader in entrepreneurship support, democratising entrepreneurship education and learning for all. You’re receiving this newsletter because we’ve been in touch for the past weeks, months or maybe years, and because your interest, skills, experience and/or professional focus aligns with our mission and values.
For those who are new subscribers, or to give you a quick recap, Edventures is an edtech and future-of-work startup based out of Sweden but with a fully remote and international team, spanning across three continents. Our mission is to develop a cutting-edge conversational AI that provides personalised coaching and learning experiences tailored to each entrepreneur’s specific business idea, needs, and challenges. Our platform also supports entrepreneurship organisations, coaches, and educators who play pivotal roles in supporting aspiring entrepreneurs.
Read on to discover this month’s latest updates and milestones. If you’re in a rush, below are the highlights you need to know about from last month.
TL;DR
Major progress on Alpha rebuild to meet B2C pivot needs, including new UI, freemium model, Stripe integration, and referral tracking system.
Welcomed Jennifer from Lagos, Nigeria as Community and Marketing Intern.
Launch of Alpha 3.0 scheduled for August with early-bird offers dropping soon.
💜 Team
All of July was focused on transforming the Alpha to meet the needs of our B2C pivot. As co-founder and lead engineer, Aadarsh has been crucial to bringing the Alpha 3.0 to life, and he’s been tackling both frontend and backend changes with relentless focus and skill. Thanks to his relentless efforts and dedication, we’re on track to deliver a platform that truly reflects our shared vision.
We also welcomed a new team member: Jennifer, based in Lagos, Nigeria, who joined as our Community and Marketing Intern. Jennifer joins us to help me activate our channels, spread the word about our upcoming relaunch, and re-engage our community.
⚙️ Product
Last month, we designed, rebuilt, and internally deployed Alpha 3.0 with a new interface and features—marking a significant milestone in our product evolution. The changes we’ve worked on in July were essential, as the previous version wasn’t market-ready.
Key highlights include:
- Introducing a tiered freemium subscription model
- Stripe integration for seamless, global payments
- A custom referral tracking system to fuel organic growth
- Backend functionality improvements for better performance and to meet new B2C requirements
As part of our pivot, our primary focus has shifted from organisations to entrepreneurs. While we still engage organisations, we now approach them as distribution and affiliate partners. Since making the decision in late June, every conversation we’ve had has been encouraging and many see this as a stronger, more focused approach that better serves entrepreneurs directly.
To engage more users and better grow organically, we’ve looked into different affiliate software. While researching affiliate software, we quickly realised that existing solutions were either technically incompatible with our stack or unreasonably expensive. So Aadarsh, impressively, built a custom, lightweight referral system over a weekend.
Although the Alpha 3.0 was fully built and internally deployed for testing in July, our public launch is set for mid-August, giving us time for final refinements, onboarding materials, and early-bird offers.
This shift has also prompted us to make some crucial updates in the platform: we’re integrating billing and launching a free and premium subscription tier right out of the gate.
Below are a few before and after wireframes to show you some of the changes made in the UI.
👆 BEFORE (Alpha 2.0) - Old sign up screen.
👆 AFTER (Alpha 3.0) - New sign up screen, with a cleaner design, branding and colour choices.
👆 BEFORE (Alpha 2.0) - The main menu for an entrepreneur user. Confusing and vague overview and navigation which separated the chat and the menu.
👆 BEFORE (Alpha 2.0) - The chat interface, very neutral, bland, and no branding.
👆 AFTER (Alpha 3.0) - The new chat interface, with a much clearer navigation and overview, as well as more best practices followed.
🙋👀 If you’re interested in testing out the new platform, give us a shout in any of our channels and we’ll add you to our list early birds. 🙋👀
We’ll send out invitations later in August with promotions for any early subscribers to a paid plan!
🌍 Community
In July, we met with the startup department of Turkish Airlines via a connection from the Eureka Network’s Investment Readiness Programme. My initial pitch to them was to integrate a part of our platform into their in-flight entertainment system, to let passengers explore and develop business ideas during their flights, something that would be a world-first. While no immediate outcome came from that meeting, they did express curiosity about potential internal use of our platform, and the exchange helped us share our vision more broadly though I doubt any progress will happen in the short-term future.
On the other hand, conversations with Junior Agripreneur Hub Africa (JAHA) have been positive, with a potential pilot involving 500 users starting in November, pending their internal timelines. JAHA offer entrepreneurship learning for and programmes for agrientrepreneurs in Southern Africa.
Jennifer has begun reactivating our online community, engaging with members and kick-starting content efforts, while in parallell managing her law studies.
We’re launching the Alpha 3.0 later in August, with special offers for our early adopters. We also introduce our referral system where you as an individual entrepreneur get 10% in referral bonus (on the subscription value after deducted promotions) for every new user you recommend that signs up for a paid plan with us, within 90 days of creating their account.
For organisations, coaches and admins working at an incubator, educational programme, accelerator, or any other organisation offering entrepreneurship support, will also get 10% in referral bonus for every new user they recommend that signs up for a paid plan with us, within 90 days of creating their account. This referral bonus applies to both affiliated and unaffiliated users that an organisation refers to us, which is a great way for an organisation to create a passive income while also showing some goodwill to entrepreneurs they can’t accept into their programmes.
All in all, keep an eye out in your inbox!
💰 Funding Opportunities
Being a typical holiday month, July was relatively quiet on the funding front. We did get in touch with Antler Stockholm, Hustle Fund, and Decelera Americas, but didn’t proceed further. We didn’t get any feedback on the applications, and while that’s the reality of the current funding landscape, we’re now focused on the next set of opportunities in August, where our new direction will be front and centre.
What’s in the Pipeline for Next Month?
Applications for Vinnova Innovative Startups, Berkeley SkyDeck, and Eureka Innowwide
We’re launching our Alpha 3.0, the first version directly designed for entrepreneurs
Significant outreach to both existing contacts and new leads
