Tips And Tricks To Make Entrepreneurship Interesting For Everyone To Learn

People learn better when they’re feeling strong positive emotions.

Start-ups can be rewarding, but the work it takes to get them up and running is effortful at the least. Entrepreneurs tend to find themselves working on generating problem-solving ideas, tested prototypes, funding, strategies to scale the company and remarkable developments from mere ideas; all this amidst the pressures of unforeseen start-up-related challenges.

Consequently, many believe that starting a successful venture is too daunting a task, and as such, one that is difficult and boring to learn.

They may be partly right about it being difficult, nothing good comes easy after all. But difficult need not equate to boring. Challenges can be made fun too, right?

But, how can entrepreneurship education be made fun for its learners? Do we avoid making entrepreneurship education fun because doing so could render it less effective? Let’s find out.

Can Learning Entrepreneurship In A Fun Way Make The Learning Less Effective.

For researchers Dulay & Burt, and Krashen, there exists no better companion to education than fun. In their research, The Neuroscience of Joyful Education, these three esteemed academicians found evidence that people learn better when they’re feeling strong positive emotions.

The same thought was seconded by Judy Willis, who states in her book, Neuroscience, that fun experiences increase levels of dopamine, endorphins, and oxygen — all of which promote learning.

From these findings, it is clear that learning would be more productive were it to be made more enjoyable. Unfortunately, many education systems the world over, and especially those that roll out entrepreneurship programs, seem to be moving in the opposite direction of the evidence provided.

With a generation of young individuals, 79% of whom believe that enjoying what they do is the most important factor to get something done, this only explains why the uptake of entrepreneurship education and ventures has been rather dismal in recent years.

Many young people just don’t see the fun in studying entrepreneurship or becoming entrepreneurs. Which begs the question, what can be done to make entrepreneurship education, and the concept of starting one’s business an exciting thing?

How Can Entrepreneurship Education Be Made More Interesting?

The idea of having simplified and engaging entrepreneurship learning methods may seem like a far-fetched one. But it’s possible, especially if one employs the following tactics:

Gamified Learning

According to ScienceDirect, students who were educated with challenge-based gamification raised their performance by up to 89.45% compared to those who only received lectures. Not only did their performance drastically improve, but 67% of them reported that gamified learning was more motivating and engaging than traditional courses.

For this reason, incorporating gamified learning to entrepreneurship could very well be the magic bullet needed to change people’s perception of business learning for the better.

Linking Lessons to Real-Life Business Challenges

Entrepreneurship education needs to be made more relevant. Many young and budding entrepreneurs are struggling with lack of experience, and business education that is overly theoretical and out of touch with day-to-day entrepreneurship needs. As such, finding a way to deliver relevant and timely lessons to entrepreneurship learners, will ensure they find the lessons more applicable to their respective entrepreneurial needs. The result is that they will enjoy learning entrepreneurship and probably even be more engaged in entrepreneurial ventures.

Partnering With Seasoned Entrepreneurs

Entrepreneurs are programmed to take on the world by themselves. They get their hands dirty, do the hard work, they strive to be self-made. This, however, does not need to always be the case. If anything, doing it all alone can make one find entrepreneurship a bit too overwhelming.

For this reason, having a person to guide them through business and life challenges could make entrepreneurship learning far more interesting for entrepreneurs-to-be. Instead of having to learn through their own mistakes, individuals willing to start their business ventures can benefit greatly from the layers of knowledge and value offered by entrepreneurship coaches. These coaches can spot weaknesses, objectively advise on what can be done to improve, and help keep track of learning progress, which makes entrepreneurship learners more accountable and committed to their learning.
